Decorate your home with the best style

If blank walls and empty rooms make you nervous, this blog is for you. Decorating your home from scratch doesn't have to be challenging. Follow these tips and in a short time you will be able to start decorating your home.

Decorating your home should be a process in which you enjoy and have a lot of fun. It should not cause undue stress or worry. Also, think that it can be a project that takes you several years before you really see each and every one of the spaces in your home finished. Here's how to get started:

Decide how you will live

First decide what lifestyle you will lead in your new home. The home of someone who hosts large dinner parties, for example, should be different from a home for someone who eats out most of the time.

Likewise, a person who plans to organize fundraising events should have a different living room than a person who prefers a sound system to watch movies comfortably from a sofa.

Choose a style

You don't need to "marry" a predefined "style" of farmhouse, boho, minimalist, etc. But it is important to understand what you like and what you don’t, and not let the opinions or the tastes of others, influence how you will decorate your home.

Colors scheme

Once you're clear on the style you plan to use to decorate (boho, farmhouse, transitional, or a mix of different styles), you now need to choose a color palette.

Do you want to keep things light and bright? Do you prefer warmer, cooler tones or bold colors? Choosing one color (or very similar colors) for all the walls in your home not only ensures that your color combinations flow from room to room, but it takes the headache out of trying to figure out a million different paint samples.

Don't start at the furniture store

Surely you have heard that you should avoid going shopping at the supermarket on an empty stomach because you will end up buying more than what you need.

The same applies to furniture stores: don't go shopping just because you have an empty house. Yes, you need a sofa. But if you choose the pink striped one just because you liked it in the store, without taking measurements or thinking about the rest of the room, then you should plan the room around that sofa, and if it's too big, it will always look uncomfortable.

Copy to the pros

Look in design books or magazines, and of course: on the internet. Discover the style that you like the most. Save images and study the details.

Let the light in

Bare windows look better than heavy or old-fashioned curtains. Ideally, window coverings should be both functional and stylish.

If your room gets a lot of sun, choose light-colored curtains that won't fade. Choose lighter fabrics like cotton, linen and silk blends, they tend to drape well.

Rugs under furniture legs

In a living room, all four legs of the sofa and chairs in a furniture group must fit in it; the rug should define the sleeping area. At a minimum, the two front legs of the sofa and chairs should rest on it.

Mixed textures

It is very boring when all the furniture combines too much, stead look for variety in the textures and decorative pieces in your home. For example, you could combine tile with wood, a neutral jute rug with a colorful wool rug, or you could accent a leather sofa with a plush throw. You can also mix metallic objects.
